The best terraces in Budapest – PHOTOS
Here is your ultimate list of the best bars in Budapest with a terrace and maybe a beautiful view.
Summer is here, and we can finally put an end to this awfully long past year dominated by the coronavirus. The European Union decided on the implementation of a common vaccine certificate, accepted by all EU Member States, which will serve as one of your most important documents this summer.
Here is everything you need to know about the EU vaccine passport
If you are not vaccinated yet, do not worry. This article will still be one of your best guides for your stay in Budapest, as all the places on the list have a huge terrace where you can sit down without an immunity certificate.
Before we dive right in,
check out the best hotels of Hungary, including many in Budapest,
so you can quickly start planning your next trip to the beautiful capital of Hungary.
Pagony kert (10 Kemenes utca, 1114)
One of the first things that come to mind when we think about Budapest is the almost endless list of possibilities to take a dive in a historic and unique thermal bath. What if I said you could get into a thermal pool but not with the purpose of taking a swim? This is exactly the experience that Pagony offers. The “garden” is quite literally situated in the old children pool of the Gellért Thermal Bath. Whether you are hungry for a hamburger, in the mood for a good and refreshing Hungarian craft beer, or you just feel like watching the sunset right next to the beautiful building of the famous bath, this is the right place for you.
Bálna Terasz (11-12 Fővám tér, 1093)
It is as simple as that: Terrace. What awaits you is a beautiful view of Buda and the Danube from the bank of the river, an immense variety of the most refreshing summer drinks, including homemade lemonades, a crispy rosé, or a fancy cocktail, complemented with a nice meal, such as a hamburger or a quesadilla. All this right at the bank of the Danube, with a breathtaking view of Gellért Hill. What more do you need?
Akvárium (Erzsébet tér, 1051)
Leaving the Danube and moving towards the city centre, there is a place that may need no introduction, however, it cannot be missing from any list. Akvárium is one of the most popular and well-known spots in Budapest, right in the heart of the city next to Deák Square. A meeting point for the youth, Akvárium and the park around it are always vibrant and noisy. The terrace belonging to the club that organises the best concerts all year long is situated on the huge steps connecting the club with the park. A truly unique idea.
360 Bar (39 Andrássy út, 1061)
The name says it all. The rooftop terrace gives a 360° panoramic view of the capital. And when I say “of the capital,” I really mean it. Almost each and every monument and important spot of Budapest can be seen from this minimalist yet modern bar full of green plants and a very abundant drink list. Despite its location on Andrássy Avenue, 360 Bar has reasonable prices and very long opening hours between 2 pm and 2 am from Friday to Saturday, which, of course, may vary depending on the weather. The rest of the week they close at midnight, and between Thursday and Sunday, there is an entry fee of 1,000 forints (3 euros). Be aware that it is a very popular place, so reserving a table in advance is advised.
High Note Sky Bar (5 Hercegprímás utca, 1051)
As opposed to the previous spot, High Note Sky Bar is open all year round, irrespective of the weather conditions as they have a big interior area (which, of course, due to the coronavirus measures, is only open to those who are vaccinated). Nevertheless, the rest of the bar welcomes anyone who wants to spend a comfortable evening with friends, sipping a tasty cocktail while admiring the wonderful view of the Basilica. Keep in mind that this spot is on the fancier side of our list, and it offers several evening programmes with music and parties. Moreover, they even have a separate corner set up to take the coolest Instagram-worthy pictures.
